The charming city of Svolvær is considered to be a gateway to the Lofoten Islands. The Hurtigruten calls daily here, which connects the city to the Norwegian coastline. The city also has an airport with daily flights to Bodø and Oslo.

The city is surrounded by spectacular mountain formations and peaks, with one of the most famous (and photographed) being "Svolværgeita". It is also worth mentioning Fløya, Tuva, Blåtind, Kongstinden and Tjeldbergtinden. With so many amazing mountains and peaks, the hiking opportunities in and around Svolvær are endless.

Svolvær is the largest town in Vågan municipality and also functions as the centre of administration. Vågan is considered to be one of the most important municipalities for arts and artists in Northern Norway. Fishing is also important here, with Vågan being one of Norways largest exporters of fish.

The city is characterized by traditional fishermen’s cabins (in Norwegian “rorbu”) and seafront promenades. A visit to Svolvær is definitely worth it.
