Sande is the administrative centre of the municipality of Gaular in the county of Sogn og Fjordane. This area is referred to as ‘Fosselandet’, the land of waterfalls.

Sande i Sunnfjord is located halfway between Bergen and Stryn on the E 39 road. Its location is ideal for day trips to the Astruptunet farm cluster, the glacier museum in Fjærland and the Briksdalsbreen glacier in the Oldedalen valley.
