Covering an area of 1,800 square kilometres and with a population of 14,000, Voss is one of the biggest municipalities in the county of Hordaland.
The village is an important tourist destination with long traditions in both summer and winter tourism, and it has fostered many internationally successful skiers.
Voss is also famous for its cultural traditions in folk music, folk art/ handicrafts and traditional food. Voss has attractions such as the music festivals Vossajazz and the Osa Festival, but its rich food traditions should not be forgotten, with traditional delicacies such as smalahove (dried, salted sheep's head) being the most famous.
Other attractions include the Hangursbanen cable car, Vangskyrkja church and the Mølstertunet Folk Museum. Voss can also offer a wide range of exciting activities including water sports such as kayaking and whitewater rafting, aerial sports such as paragliding and parachute jumping, and riding and walking in the mountains.
Vossevangen, the centre of Voss, is situated at an altitude of 57 metres.
