Take a road trip over the spectacular Hardangervidda Mountain plateau in Norway
Start the tour by spending a few days in Norway’s capital city. Oslo has many attractions, teeming crowds and plenty of restaurants and accommodation to choose from.
From Oslo, drive to Vikersund, part of Kunstnerdalen (Valley of Artists), a valley with beautiful scenery and a rich cultural scene. Visit Modum Blaafarveverk with its art exhibitions, mine safaris, museums, country store, glass shop and talks on the history of the mining community.
Continue to Geilo, one of Norway’s largest winter resorts. From Geilo, you drive across the Hardangervidda, Northern Europe’s largest high-mountain plateau and Norway’s biggest national park. Before starting the descent from the Hardangervidda plateau, we recommend a stop at Vøringsfossen, Norway’s tallest waterfall. The sheer mountainsides and the roaring falls make for a unique experience. After Vøringsfossen, drive the steep and winding road down through the Måbødalen valley to Eidfjord.
After visiting Eidfjord, drive alongside the Hardangerfjord, the second longest of Norway’s fjords, with steep mountains and charming fruit-growing villages, which are well worth a visit. From Hardanger, you pass Steindalsfossen waterfall and cross the Kvamskogen mountain plateau before reaching Bergen. Finish the tour by exploring the city of Bergen.

DETOURS
Explore Hardanger
From Eidfjord, we recommend you to spend a day in Hardanger to experience the charming small villages and the magnificent scenery. If you head up into the mountains, you will come to Hardangervidda, the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. Two of the biggest glaciers in Norway, Hardangerjøkulen and Folgefonna, are in Hardanger. From glaciers and high mountains, the waterfalls cascade down into the Queen of the Fjords – the Hardangerfjord.
A trip to the villages Lofthus and Utne on the south side of the Hardangerfjord is also recommended.
Rosendal
When in the Hardanger area, we recommend a visit to Rosendal, whose combination of majestic scenery and cultural attractions make this beautiful village well worth a visit.
