On the fjord

Idyllically located by Sognefjorden, Balestrand offers many options to get out on the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. If a fast pace activity is your favourite then a Rib tour on Sognefjorden is a great tip, or maybe a quiet paddle tour on the blue-green water is more your cup of tea?

Balestrand is a fine starting point for several full day excursions. If you`re a glacier enthusiast then there are daily departures with boat to Fjærlandsfjorden where a visit to the glacier museum and the glacier Bøyebreen is included.

On the mountain

Surrounded by high mountains, Balestrand does not lack of varied hiking trails, suited both for the experienced ones and for the more leisure kind of type. The trails are well marked and at the top you are rewarded with an astonishing view over Balestrand and Sognefjorden!

Cider in Sogn

The traditions of making cider in Sogn are playful and wild, something that results in many unique and innovative drinks. You may join cider tasting at Ciderhuset, where you will get an introduction to cider production along Sognefjorden and hear the story behind the wellknown drink. A taste of the produce is guaranteed. 

Architectural Balestrand

Swiss- and dragonstyle are some of the styles used to build many of the houses i Balestrand. They are well preserved in addition to other wooden buildings. A walk through Balestrand is an exciting and historical experience. Amongst others, the unique St.Olafs church in stave church style with it`s 2 spears is found here. Did you know that the chapel of St. Olafs church was the direct source of inspiration to the Disney film Frozen?
