Norheimsund

Visit Nordheimsund, a small pearl about 80 km to the north-east of the city of Bergen, by the Hardangerfjord. The town is a transport hub that is especially popular among summer tourists due to an attractive waterfront with a guest harbour and a charming esplanade. This is also a great base from which to explore the Hardanger region.

Norheimsund  is situated in the municipality of Kvam, on the northern stretch of the Hardangerfjord where you’ll find Norway’s most visited waterfall, Steinsdalfossen. The waterfall is quite unique as you can walk behind it without getting wet. Standing «under» the roaring water gives you a real close encounter with nature!

When in Norheimsund we recommend a visit to the Hardanger Maritime Center if it sounds interesting to learn more about traditional building of wooden ships in Norway. The workshops are fully functional, and children can enjoy learning to whittle toy boats and making ropes. There is a number of exhibitions to see and full-scale vessels to visit.

At the premises, you can rent one of the traditional rowing boats and take them out «for a spin» on the fjord. When arriving by boat, the accommodating guest harbour is a good option for the stay. The town is close to Øystese, sharing many of the local attractions. One highly recommended activity is to join in on a Cider-Tour in Hardanger where you get to see the production and sample world-class cider after a cruise on the fjord.
