The story of the Highland Lodge
It all began in 1959 when Scotsman Bernhard O'Connor, owner of Highland Hotel on Jersey Island, wanted to erect a world-class mountain hotel in Norway.
Sander O. Fossgård owned a central plot in Geilo, and after brief negotiations the lot was sold to the O'Connor. Not long after, Bergen architect Einar Vaardal-Lunde designed the new hotel.
The hotel's name was Highland, named after the owner's other hotel, while the locals called it "Høggland". The official opening of Highland Hotel took place midsummer 1963. Since then the hotel has had several owners, but its current owner, Pål G. Gundersen, purchased the hotel in 2005.
In 2013 the hotel went through a massive re-design process, by the famous interior designer Anemone Wille Våge. Today, the rooms are converted into apartments with a living room, kitchen and double rooms.
On the ground floor you can find a bakery and a pizzeria. It serves delicious baked goods from kl. 07:00 to 17:00 The pizzeria is open from 12:00 to 21:00
