Instead, the building was used as hotel when the construction of the Bergen Railway began. In the early 20th century, the mountain hotel became a very popular winter destination among Norwegian and European tourists, and was called the nordic St. Moritz.
For the last 30 years, the hotel has been run by the Aksnes family and is today hosted by Jannet Aksnes, 2nd generation of Aksnes family at Vatnahalsen.
