Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotel

Vatnahalsen Hotel is located high above the Aurlandsfjord, by the end of the well known Flåm Railway in Myrdal. The hotel has free Wi-Fi, a traditional restaurant, and bar with pool table and fireplace.

Without any car roads that leads to the hotel, you are surrounded by wildly mountain scenery. Here you will have direct access to hiking trails and fishing opportunities by the Reinunga lake.

The rooms at Vatnahalsen Hotel has great view over the lake and the mountains and a breakfast buffet is served with the stunning view every morning. On the top floor you can visit Lilleloftet, an ideal place to enjoy the fantastic view, the utter silence and a good book in hand. The hotel also has a sauna.

The Flåm Railway stops at Vatnahalsen station only 50 meters from the hotel. Flåm is located 20 km down the valley, and from there you can go on a fjordcruise on the Nærøyfjord, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The popular trail Rallarvegen passes through Vatnahalsen. This spectacular biking route crosses the mountain plateau Hardangervidda and ends by the Aurlandsfjord.

Vatnahalsen was originally built as a sanatorium by Doctor Fretheim in 1896, but was never used for its original purpose. Instead, the building was used as hotel when the construction of the Bergen Railway began. In the early 20th century, the mountain hotel became a very popular winter destination among Norwegian and European tourists, and was called the nordic St. Moritz.

Vatnahalsen Hotel is an ideal place for overnight stays during the Norway in a Nutshell® and Sognefjord in a Nutshell™ tours.
