Below is a collection of the most frequently asked questions in regards to our tours, overnight stays during tours, transfer points during tours and the Fjord Pass® discount card.

Tours

Are the tours guided?

No, there is no guide on our tours. You travel on your own by following the travel itinerary. The connections are all within close proximity of each other for easy transfer. Stops are always announced over the speakers.

How many tickets are included in your trips?

All tours have one main ticket where all the legs of the tour is marked. This ticket is a valid travel document for all the legs of the route.

In addition there are separate tickets for the other legs on the trip, except the bus between Voss and Gudvangen. On this leg you show the main ticket.

You must also print a copy of the order confirmation and bring along with you to show on the fjord cruise (On all Norway in a nutshell® tours).

There are no separate tickets for activities booked during our tours. The activity provider will be informed of your booking and your tour confirmation contains all necessary details.

Where and when can I pick up my trip tickets?

You can pick up the tickets at any time during the opening hours of the ticket office. You must show the order confirmation from Fjord Tours containing your reference number to get the tickets issued. You will find detailed information about location and opening hours of the ticket office in your order confirmation.

Please note that you can pick up your tickets at all our sales outlets in Norway.

Are there any student or senior discount on your trips?

There is no student or senior discount on any of our package trips to the fjords.

We do however have student discounts on our ski tickets to Voss and Myrkdalen.

What does "R" in itinerary mean?

It means ‘seat reservation needed’. If the transport is not marked with R in the itinerary there is free seating. When you buy a tour from Fjord Tours, we will automatically make all needed seat reservations for you.

Can I cancel a trip booked online?

Trips bought online, can only be cancelled if you have bought the cancellation protection together with your trip. The cancellation protection is not a travel insurance. You can only use it if you need to cancel your trip and reason for cancelling is covered by this. If you need a full travel insurance, please contact an insurance company in your country.

Some phones may have limited access to foreign phone numbers and 815 numbers in particular, and it may therefore not be possible to reach our customer support service. In that case, we recommend you to try again from your private phone or call the switchboard (+ 47) 55557660.

Are there luggage lockers available at the Hurtigruteteminal in Ålesund?

There are no luggage lockers at the Hurtigruten Terminal in Ålesund. We recommend you to contact the hotel you are staying at in Ålesund to hear if you can keep your luggage there until you are departing for Bergen.

Are there luggage lockers at the railway station in Flåm and at the Strandkaiterminal in Bergen?

Yes, there are luggage lockers at the railway station in Flåm and at the Strandkaiterminal in Bergen.

Are there places to store the luggage on all the tranport legs?

Yes, there are places to store the luggage on all the transport legs on our trips. Please note that you need to carry the luggage yourself from boat, to bus to train. All connections are within close proximity for easy transfer.

Are we taking two different Hurtigruten ship on the Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell® trip?

Yes, there is one ship taking you on the Geiranger cruise from Ålesund, and a different ship taking you from Ålesund to Bergen.

Can I bring a stroller on your trips?

Yes, you can bring a stroller with you on our trips. Please write in the comment box that you have a stroller with you because we have to make special seat reservations on regional trains.

Can I book the Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell® tour with out the Norway in a nutshell® part?

It is not possible to buy the Geiranger tour without the Norway in a nutshell® part via Fjord Tours booking service.

Can I get discount on your tours with Scanrail/Eurail pass?

For travellers with Rail Pass including Norway, e.g Eurail Pass, it is possible to explore Norway in a nutshell® and Sognefjord in a nutshell with the pass.

You can buy the ticket at Oslo Central Railway station or Bergen Railway station.The ticket can only be used in conjunction with your Rail Pass number. Please note that this option cannot be booked online.

Can I have my dog with me on your trips?

The Sognefjord in a nutshell is the only trip where animals are accepted. It is important that you inform about this when you make the booking, because we need to make special seat reservations for you on the regional train. You must also pay an additonal cost to bring your dog with you on the express boat.

Do I have to book hotels with you if I plan to have overnight stays during the trip?

We recommend that you book your overnight stays and hotels whilst booking your tour, but this is up to you. You can book hotels separately or together with the tour.

If you want to book hotel separately, please tick the box "I want to arrange hotels on my own" at the preferred destination when you come to the hotel page during the tour booking.

Do I have to make the seat resevations myself?

All required seat reservations are made by Fjord Tours. The seat number will be confirmed on your tickets.

There are no seat reservations on the Flåm Railway and local trains on the Bergen Railway, nor do the buses and boats have seats that can be reserved.

If you are travelling between Oslo and Myrdal and on the Flam railway, you will need a reservation on the train. Bookings that include these legs of the route must be made for an exact date as reservations on these legs cannot be changed once tickets have been paid for.

 

Do I have to book tickets for a child under 4 years old?

Children under 4 years old travel for free. You must however also book the trip for your infant so we can make sure that you get suitable seats.

How can I add a hotel to your trips?

Book the trip with overnight stay during the trip (2 days or more).
Choose place(s) to stay over. Available hotels in the place(s) you choose will show in the booking.

Book one of our available hotels or mark for " I want to arrange hotel on my own".

The itinerary will be updated when you press next after you have chosen your overnight stays during the trip.

Which documents do I need to pick up my trip tickets?

You must show your order confirmation including the refererence number for the trip to get the tickets issued. Detailed information about pick- up place and opening hours for the ticket office will be included in your order confirmation. 

I want to travel tomorrow, but it is not possible to choose this date in the calendar ?

We close our online booking at 15:00 weekdays and Friday after 15:00 for bookings during weekends. After this time you cannot book the trip online for the next day or Saturdays and Sundays.

If you want to travel when we are closed, you can buy tickets at the Tourist Information in Oslo, the Tourist Information in Bergen or at the NSB ticket office in the railway stations in Oslo, Bergen or Voss.

Please note that the product range can vary from sales outlet to sales outlet.

Do I have to book the trip in advance?

We recommend you to book the trip online as soon as you have decided the travel date. It is recommendable to buy the tickets in advance since some of the trains might be fully booked close to departure date, especially in the high season.

If you don't have the opportunity to buy the tour in advance you can buy it in one of our sales outlets in Norway.

Please note: The Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell®, the Hurtigruten & Norway in a nutshell®, the Northern lights & Norway in a nutshell® and the Pulpit Rock & Norway in a nutshell® trips can only be booked in advance on our website www.fjordtours.com.

Is it possible to stop over during your trips?

Yes, you can make as many overnight stops as you like along the route.

Book the trip with overnight stay during the trip (2 days or more).
Choose place(s) to stay over. Available hotels in the place(s) you choose will show in the booking.

Book one of our available hotels or mark for " I want to arrange hotel on my own".

The itinerary will be updated when you press next after you have chosen your overnight stays during the trip.

What is the difference between the ordinary boat and the new boat?

There are two different boats that operate on the fjord cruise between Gudvangen and Flåm. See more detailed information HERE.

I use a wheel chair. Which tour would you recommend?

We recommend you to take our Sognefjord in a nutshell tour since this trip does not include a bus ride.

It is also possible to take the Norway in a nutshell ® tour. But then you need to have a foldable wheelchair and you must travel with a companion that can help you along the route. The buses are not accessible for wheelchairs, so wheelchair must be foldable so that it can be placed in the trunk.

Please write in the comment box that you are wheel chair user and we will book suitable seat for you on the regional trains.

How is luggage handled on your trips?

You can bring your luggage with you on the trip. There are places to store the luggage on each transport leg.
Be aware that you have to carry the luggage yourself from train to bus to boat etc, but the connections are all within close proximity for easy transfer.

You can book luggage transport with the trip if you also book hotel in Oslo and Bergen and take the trip in 1 day.

What is inlcuded in the Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell® trip?

Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell® includes all transportation stretches and cabin with breakfast on Hurtigruten from Ålesund to Bergen. If you want single or exterior cabin on Hurtigruten you need to pay extra for this.

Do I get discount with my Fjord Pass® on your tours?

The Fjord Pass® gives you discount on activities and sights, selected tourist boat routes and rental car from AVIS.

The Fjord Pass® is included when you buy a tour through our website. You can also buy the Fjord Pass® without buying a tour. Read more and buy your Fjord Pass® here.

Is the hiking trip to the Pulpit Rock included in the Pulpit Rock & Norway in a nutshell® trip?

You can choose between a fjord cruise on the Lysefjord where you see the Pulpit Rock from the fjord or a cruise and hiking trip where you walk up to the Pulpit Rock. Be aware that the hiking trip is not available the whole season.

Where can I stay over during the Lysefjord in a nutshell trip?

You can stay over in Stavanger and Sandnes on this trip.

Are we taking 2 different Hurtigruten ships on the Hjørundfjord & Norway in a nutshell© trip?

No, you are staying on the same Hurtigruten ship from Bergen to Hjørundfjord and back to Ålesund.

Is possible to go to Trolltunga on the Hardangerfjord in a nutshell & Rosendal trip?

Yes, but then you must stop over 2 nights on the trip, in Lofthus or Odda. You can book the Trolltunga hiking trip separately HERE.

Is it guaranteed that we get to see the Northern lights on this trip?

No, it is not guaranteed since it is depending on the weather conditions. However, the Northern light safari is going to an area where it is most likely to see the Northern light so you have good chances to experience it on the tour.

Do I see the Naeroyfjord on the Sognefjord in a nutshell trip?

No. If you want to also see the Naroyfjord, we recommend you to take the round trip from Bergen start by train and add the Heritage fjord safari trip which goes into the Naeroyfjord and back to Flåm. This can be done in one day.

If you start the trip from Oslo you have to stay over in Flam to be able to add the Heritage fjord safari trip.

Are there any meals included on the Hurtigruten ship?

Breakfast is included on the ship from Trondheim to Bergen.

 

Where can I leave my luggage in Ålesund when I am on the Geirangerfjord cruise?

You can leave your luggage at the hotel you stay at in Ålesund. They have storage place for luggage. You have time collect your luggage again before the Hurtigruten departs from Ålesund.

Transfer points in Bergen

All our round trips that starts from Bergen with train, departs from Bergen railway station.

Sognefjord in a nutshell (starting by boat) departs with the express boat from Strandkaiterminalen. The terminal is situated next to the Fish Market and approx. 10 min. walk from Bergen railway station.

Hardangerfjord in a nutshell starting by bus: The bus departs from the express bus terminal, field O and is signed for Norheimsund. Approx. 5 min. walk from the train station.

Pulpit Rock & Norway in a nutshell®: 
The express bus "Kystbussen" to/from Bergen arrives/departs at Bergen bus terminal, field N. Approx. 5 minutes walk from Bergen railway station.

Transfer points in Flåm

Norway in a nutshell®: The fjordcruise boat terminal is situated next to the railway station. The fjordcruise boat for Norway in a nutshell® departs from pier no.1

Sognefjord in a nutshell: Change from express boat to train or vice versa. The Norled boat terminal is situated next to the railway station. The express boat for Sognefjord in a nutshell departs from pier no.2

Transfer points in Geiranger

Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell®: Bus from Geiranger to Ålesund in the period 21/6-31/8. Change from Hurtigruten to bus. The bus departs from the harbour in Geiranger.

Transfer points in Norheimsund

Hardangerfjord in a nutshell: Change from boat to bus or vice versa. The bus stops at the harbour next to the express boat .

Transfer points in Ulvik

Hardangerfjord in a nutshell: Change from bus to boat or vice versa. The bus stops next to the express boat at the harbour, approx. 2 min.walk.

Transfer points in Oslo

The trains for all our trips departs from the Oslo Central Railway Station (Oslo S).

The trips whith start by flight, departs from Oslo Gardermoen airport.

Transfer points in Myrdal

Norway in a nutshell® and Sognefjord in a nutshell: Change train for the Flåm Railway or for the Bergen Railway. The trains are located next to each other.

Transfer points in Gudvangen

Norway in a nutshell®: Change from bus to boat or vice versa. The bus for the Norway in a nutshell® park next to the harbour and connect with the tourist boat/fjord boat. Please look for the bus with sign for Norway in a nutshell®/Voss at the harbour.

Transfer points in Voss

Norway in a nutshell®: Change from train to bus or vice versa. The bus to/from Gudvangen arrives/departs at Voss Railway Station. The bus is located outside the railway station. Please look for the bus with sign for Norway in a nutshell®/Gudvangen.

Hardangerfjord in a nutshell: Change from train to bus or vice versa. The bus to/from Ulvik arrives/departs at Voss Railway Station. The bus is located outside the railway station. Please look for bus with sign for Voss-Ulvik.

Transfer points in Stavanger

Pulpit Rock & Norway in a nutshell®:
The express bus "Kystbussen" to/from Stavanger arrives/departs at Stavanger bus terminal just beside Stavanger railway station.

The Lysefjord cruise departs from Skagenkaien in Stavanger. Please meet minimum 20 minutes before departure.

The train to/from Oslo arrives/departs from Stavanger railway station. The railway station is located in the city centre.

Transfer points in Trondheim

Hurtigruten & Norway in a nutshell®: Hurtigruten departs from pier no. 1 at the Hurtigruten Terminal in Trondheim.

Transfer points in Ålesund

Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell®: Hurtigruten departs from Skansekaia.

Transfer points in Åndalsnes

Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell®: Change from train to bus. The bus is waiting outside the railway station. Please look for bus with sign for Ålesund.

Transfer points in Dombås

Geirangerfjord & Norway in a nutshell®: Change from the Dovrebanen Railway to the Rauma Railway. Only 1 min. to walk.

Fjord Pass® discount card

What is Fjord Pass®?

Fjord Pass® is a discount card that gives you great discounts on activities/sights, selected tourist boat routes and rental car in Norway. Read more about the Fjord Pass® HERE.

 

I cannot download and print my Fjord Pass®?

Download Adobe Reader: If you cannot download your card, you must first download Adobe Reader and try again. If it still does not work, send an e-mail to our customer support and we will download the pass and send it to you. 

How to print the card: To open the file, click the link to your Fjord Pass® card. You will now see a picture of your card. Click on the icon of a printer in the top left-hand corner and answer ‘ok’ to the question that follows.

If this does not work, click on File on the menu bar, choose Print, and then ok.

If it still does not work. Save the adobe file (your card) on your computer. Close the Acrobat Reader program, and then open the saved file (your card) from its location on your computer. Use the print option listed above to print the card.

The Fjord Pass® can be bought directly on our website. Buy your Fjord Pass® here! You can also buy the Fjord Pass® at one of our Sales outlets in Norway or directly at the activity provider.

How many persons can share a Fjord Pass®

One Fjord Pass® is valid for 2 adults and any children under the age of 15.

 

How long is a Fjord Pass® valid?

Fjord Pass® is valid for one calendar year (from 1 January to 31 December the year it is bought).

Terms and Conditions for Luggage transportation

Terms and conditions

Prices:

Price per luggage is NOK 300 per distance. Please note: Luggage service from hotels near the airport in Oslo and Bergen costs extra. Additional price to/from hotel near Bergen Airport NOK 500 and to/from hotel near Oslo Airport NOK 750.

Pick up and delivery:

The luggage must be placed in the reception at your hotel at 07:00 in the morning for pick up. Please put name tags on all luggages that are to be transported. The luggage will be delivered at the destination hotel before 21:00 the same evening.

PLEASE NOTE: you can only send the number of luggage that you have paid for.

In case of damage:

If some luggage is damaged while it is in Porterservice’s custody, Porterservice do not compensate for broken wheels or handles. For other damages Poterservice need to be informed by owner, or tour leader within 24 hours after the damage was discovered.
