Ice hotels in Norway

When people decide to participate in a Norway vacation to see the Northern Lights, it means that they are going to need to book some rooms at the best hotels in Norway. However, rather than staying at a standard fancy hotel in Norway, many visitors might like to experience something much more unique. Norway is one of the few places in the world where guests can have the opportunity to stay in something called an ice hotel.

What Is an Ice Hotel?

These unique places are essentially exactly what they sound like, a hotel made out of ice. More specifically, they are hotels that are constructed using a combination of ice blocks and hard-packed snow to create a material that is able to remain together.

Some ice hotels are very basic and consist of individual igloo type rooms, whereas other ice hotels are much nicer and can come in room sizes capable of fitting many people at once. Since these hotels are almost entirely made out of ice, the interior temperature of them is often somewhere between 0 and -6 degrees Celsius.

Where Can Ice Hotels Be Found?

Luckily, the climate of Norway makes it one of the best places in the world to serve as the location for these various ice hotels. Therefore, in almost any part of Norway, there are likely some nearby ice hotels that guests can visit.

However, if you want to get the best selection of ice hotels to choose from, then you are going to need to head to the Northern parts of Norway such as Lapland. The temperatures in this part of the country are colder than 0 degrees Celsius for almost half the year, making it an ideal location for ice hotels.

How Much Does an Ice Hotel Cost?

The costs associated with renting a room in an ice hotel depends on many different factors. For example, if someone decides to stay in a small and simple room, then the cost is going to be much less than someone who decides to stay in a much more extravagant room.

It is also important to think about additional costs that may be associated with specific ice hotels, such as the cost of having to travel to an isolated destination to get to an ice hotel when there is an equally nice one conveniently located in the middle of Ålesund.

To stay in some of the nicer ice hotels in Norway, you can expect to pay anywhere from 2,200-3,000 NOK per night. This might be a little pricey for some travelers, and instead only look at the inside of an ice hotel rather than actually booking a room.
