Fjord Tours commitment to sustainability
Fjord Tours is committed to responsible travel in Norway. From the routes we design to the partners we work with, sustainability is built into how we shape our products. Here's what that looks like in practice.

At Fjord Tours, we believe tourism creates connections between people and nature, between travelers and locals, and between the world and the very best of Norway. As Norway's largest tour and activity provider, we take that privilege seriously.
Sustainability is at the forefront of how we make decisions, design our tours, and choose who we work with.
Eco-Lighthouse certification
Our efforts are independently recognized. Since November 2010, we have been a certified Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn) company, which is Norway's most widely used environmental certification.
Eco-Lighthouse certification means our environmental commitment runs through everything we do, not just our tours. For travelers, it means choosing Fjord Tours comes with the assurance that we work to reduce our footprint at every level: digital over paper, reusable over single-use, trains over rental cars.
In 2011, we also received the European Sustainable Tourism Award from the Vision on Sustainable Tourism Awards (VESTAs), recognized as a leading example of responsible tourism in the Tour Package category.
Did you know? Flying from Oslo to Bergen produces 69 kg of CO₂ per person. Traveling the same route with Fjord Tours? Just 7 kg. That's what responsible route design looks like in practice.
Responsible tourism in practice
These are practical examples of how we take steps to become more sustainable.
We design tours around sustainable transport
We’ve built a lot of our tours around Norway's world-class rail and ferry network. We collaborate with Vy, Norway's largest public transport provider, to provide train travel across the country. In Norway, the train isn't just the responsible choice; it's the better one, with views of forests, mountain plateaus, and fjords that no car window can match.
Where rail meets water, we choose electric fjord cruises, which are quiet and low-emission. For road journeys, we choose electric buses and coaches wherever possible.
Our Norway in a Nutshell® tour brings these transport choices together into one joined-up journey by rail, electric bus, and electric fjord cruise.
We choose our partners carefully
We work closely with local activity, accommodation, and transport providers who share our values. Where possible, we choose partners with recognized environmental credentials.
We value local communities
Tourism, at its best, strengthens the places it passes through. We design our tours to keep value with local businesses and support local employment.
We encourage year-round tourism
We encourage tours throughout the year to support local economies during quieter months by designing specific, curated tours outside the summer season.
