Sognefjord in a Nutshell™ covers Norway's longest fjord with more time spent on the water and significantly fewer other visitors. It suits travelers who want a quieter, deeper fjord experience. Geirangerfjord in a Nutshell™ covers the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord. It has steeper cliffs, bigger waterfalls, and the Trollstigen mountain road. It's the most visually dramatic of the 3 routes. All 3 tours are self-guided, flexible on start city, and can be extended with overnight stays.

Where do Nutshell tours start and end?

Most tours start in Oslo or Bergen and can be done one-way or as a round trip. Geirangerfjord in a Nutshell™ can also start from Ålesund. Lysefjord in a Nutshell™ can also start from Stavanger. Most routes are flexible, meaning you can begin in one city and end in another, or return to where you started.

How far in advance should I book my tour?

For summer travel (June–September), booking 3 to 5 months ahead gives you the best choice of dates and accommodation. Popular departures in July and August sell out early. Outside peak season, last-minute bookings are often possible up to the day before departure.

What is the best time of year to visit Norway in a Nutshell®?

The best time to do Norway in a Nutshell® is May, June, September or early October. These months usually offer the best balance of fjord scenery, comfortable weather, good daylight and fewer crowds than peak summer. The right season depends on what you want to experience. Spring, from April to June, is ideal for powerful waterfalls, greener landscapes and longer days. Summer, from June to August, has the warmest weather and longest daylight, but Flåm, Gudvangen and the Nærøyfjord are at their busiest. Autumn, from September to October, is quieter, with colorful landscapes and good travel conditions. Winter, from November to March, brings snow-covered scenery and fewer visitors, but daylight is limited.
