The Fish Market is one of Bergen's biggest tourist attractions and has existed since the 13th century. Since then, the square has been one of the most important places for trade between fishermen, farmers and Bergen's inhabitants. In 2012 the indoor Fish Market opened, where the merchants have permanent shops and restaurants indoors.
