Descripción del recorrido
You start this tour from the tourist information office in Geiranger where you meet your guide and get ready for an exciting experience. The waterfall walk goes from the center, along the Geiranger River to the Norwegian Fjord Center. Along the way, you explore two old hydropower plants and get an insight into how the early pioneers in the village saw opportunities to harness the water and utilize hydropower. This is one of the more unknown sides of Geiranger!
Storfossen (directly translated "The Big Waterfall") is the biggest attraction on the trip. This river and waterfall change with the season and provide different experiences throughout the year. In the spring the snow melts and the river is big and daunting. You can even hear how the rocks in the river are moved around by the water when the river is rough and wild. The force of the water is enormous and can be dangerous, so it is highly important to show great respect for the rivers and waterfalls.
In winter the river is frozen and in the so-called "blue hour" it's a magical experience to be here. The waterfall walk itself has 326 steps and is approx. 0.9 km long. There is a fence along large parts of the hike and on the trip you may also experience plants, animals or birds that live close to the river.
The guiding during the walk is led by a Fjord Ranger who has a lot of knowledge about the rivers, waterfalls and the fjord in Geiranger. The tour ends at the Norwegian Fjord Center, a visitor and education hub for the West Norwegian Fjords.
¡Buen viaje!
