Norway in a Nutshell® in 3 days

Do you find it difficult to customize and book your own tour and need some advice on how to do it? To help you in the planning, we have put together a three day package on the popular Norway in a Nutshell® tour including hotels and exciting activities.

Tour alternatives

The Norway in a Nutshell® tour can be started from Oslo, Bergen, Flåm, and Voss. There are many alternative travel routes and options you can take from each place. Below you will find one of the most popular alternatives which we have put together to show you how you can customize and book an exciting trip over several days.

Round trip from Oslo

Day 1: Oslo  - Flåm

On the first day of your Norway adventure, you travel from Oslo to Flåm. You start with the Bergen Railway to Myrdal enjoying the change of scenery and landscape from busy city life up to the quiet high mountains. In Myrdal, you change to the famous Flam Railway, one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. After a breathtaking train ride to Flåm, you check in at your hotel and get ready for some great activities.

How about a kayak tour on the calm fjord or maybe you are in the mood for a more speedy activity, such as a fjord safari on the Næroyfjord? Are you the "daring" type, you have to try the Zipline in Flåm which is the longest zipline in the Nordic region (1381m long)! We highly recommend spending some time in Flåm, perhaps even a couple of days to truly take advantage of the different activities and experiences that you find here. The choices are many and you can access them all when booking a tour. See things to do in Flåm HERE.

In the evening you can watch the sunset behind the high mountains while enjoying a glass of beer from the local microbrewery Ægir in Flåm before you go to sleep.

Day 2: Flåm - Bergen

After enjoying a nice breakfast you take the morning departure from Flåm, starting with one of the many highlights on the tour, the fjord cruise on the UNESCO Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen. In Gudvangen a scenic bus ride to Voss awaits you. You pass by roaring waterfalls, small farms and stunning views of the Nærøydalen Valley. In Voss, you change to the Bergen Railway and go on a relaxing train ride to Bergen. After a day with loads of impressions, you arrive in Bergen in the early afternoon and check in at your hotel.

You are probably pretty hungry at this point, so check out one of our food activities in Bergen! There are loads of alternatives for great food experiences in the bustling town of Bergen.

Day 3: Bergen - Oslo

The next day you are ready to explore Bergen! A ride on the funicular up to another of the mountains surrounding Bergen, Mount Fløyen, is a "must", or maybe you want to see the city on a guided segway tour. If you want to feel the fresh sea air in your face, you can go on a fjord cruise to Mostraumen, or choose a calmer alternative and flow with the wind on sailboat cruise.

This is only a small selection on what to see and do in Bergen, check all the things you can do HERE

Food on the tour

There are no meals included in the tour package, but no worries, there are plenty of options for you to get a bite during the tour.

On board on the train from Oslo to Myrdal and on the fjord cruise between Flåm and Gudvangen, there is a cafeteria section where you can buy small dishes of hot and cold food, snacks, and drinks. They also have vegetarian options.

In Flåm you will find quality restaurants in Fretheim Hotel and Flåsmbrygga Hotel which serve tasty local food and drinks. If you prefer a lighter meal there is also a bakery and a "snack bar" available and several grocery stores.

Are you interested in knowing more about traditional Norwegian food and maybe joining in on a food tour, check the activities we offer HERE.

Step by step

  1. Choose the start- and end point of the tour, date, and number of persons
  2. If available you may select an earlier or a later departure from the dropdown in the booking process - the rest of your tour itinerary will adapt
  3. On each location, you get the choice of adding hotels and activities (if available) using the appropriate buttons for instance in Flåm
  4. If there is not enough time for an activity between the transport elements we suggest adding an overnight stay so there will be time enough
  5. On locations with overnight stays make sure you select the correct date of the activity
  6. Make sure you do not add activities that overlap with time schedules
